About Olive
Hello. I’m a Year 13 student studying at the British School of Tokyo. I was born in San Francisco to two Australian parents, so I mainly identify as an Aussie. After living for four years in Singapore through my elementary school days, I moved with my family to Tokyo and this is where I call home.
My art concepts and ideas range as I am still learning (and hope to never stop) learning about the world of creative arts. I’m currently interested in the female body and the extreme distortion and power it holds. The female form sitting somewhere between animal and other worldly-creature, with strength and force but also delicate and soft. At the moment I love researching skeletons and ancient animals like trilobytes and fossils and I love the futurist form work of alien and sci-fi artists like H.R Gieger and fashion designer Iris Van Herpen.
Living in Japan gives me an acute sense of the small details that surround me everyday. Sometimes, Japan feels like another planet - but I realise that it’s my everyday life too and I apprecite that. Food being a big part of my life and of course Japanese culture. I’m working on my current collection of work which is a series of oil paintings depicting local food and how delicate and precise it is, yet also ‘common place’ in Japan.
